Mission
Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, we operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. We also provide programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.

We are closed for a staff meeting every Monday and Thursday from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

Allegany County SPCA– Wellsville, NY. Our shelter is located 5 miles south of Wellsville, NY on State Route 19. It is the only place of refuge for lost, abandoned and abused animals in Allegany County. The shelter is a modest structure continually filled to capacity with an average of 100 cats and kittens and 50 dogs and puppies. We take great pride in maintaining a clean, healthy environment for the animals in our care.
Animal Protective Foundation– Schenectady, NY. The purpose of the Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady is to promote, through education and appropriate action, the elimination of pet overpopulation, the elimination of animal suffering, the enhancement of human/animal relationships, and to operate a facility adequate to provide maximum care to animals in need.
Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter – Sprakers, NY. Our philosophy is that every animal is important and worth saving. No stone is left unturned in guaranteeing that every pet entering the shelter be given every opportunity in finding a loving home. This includes lots of networking, adoption clinics, rescue organizations and publicity in our local papers.
Berkshire Humane Society- Pittsfield, MA. We are a private, non-profit, open admission animal shelter, operating to improve the lives of all animals in Berkshire County. Our Mission is to assure the compassionate care, treatment and, whenever possible, the placement of homeless animals through the shelter operation. To promote and improve the welfare of all animals through community education and outreach.
Columbia-Greene Humane Society– Hudson, NY. Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, founded in 1955, dedicates itself to the protection, humane treatment and well being of all animals. This will be accomplished by our commitment to community outreach, humane education and prevention of cruelty to animals.
Fulton County SPCA– Broadalbin, NY. We are a nonprofit organization located in Broadalbin, N.Y., and dedicated to halting and preventing animal abuse, neglect and abandonment; sheltering and finding loving homes for animals in need; and educating the public about the proper treatment of our animal friends.
G.R.A.S.P.- Rochester, NY. G.R.A.S.P. (Greece Residents Assisting Stray Pets) is a non-profit organization entirely funded by donations from the public.
Herkimer County Humane Society– Mohawk, NY. The HCHS is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization whose goal is to educate, investigate, and adovcate humane treatment of all animals. Contributions, under the HCHS gift program, are tax deductible.
Humane Society of Central Delaware County – Delhi, NY. Rural animal shelter caring for dogs ans cats, stray and owner turn in. About 1000 animals a year pass through their doors.
Massachusetts SPCA – Springfield, MA. The MSPCA Shelter at the MSPCA/AHES Western New England Animal Center in Springfield is the busiest of the Society’s seven animal shelters throughout the state. Our beautiful new facility is often filled to capacity with animals looking for new homes. Placing the homeless and unwanted animals of Western New England with caring and responsible new owners is the highlight of our work.
Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society– Menands, NY The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society (MHRHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing shelter for lost, abused and unwanted animals since 1887. Our animal care facility is the largest in the Capital Region, receiving an average of over 9,000 animals per year. MHRHS receives no ongoing funding from federal, state or local governments or any other animal welfare organization. Our doors are open to every living creature. We receive not just common household pets like cats, dogs, rabbits and hamsters, but also snakes, birds, iguanas, fish, horses, livestock and even llamas.
Pets Alive – Middletown, NY. Pets Alive is a no-kill animal shelter, located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, about 1 1/2 hours from New York City. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and place animals in need. Victims of neglect, abuse, and violence, many of them have special needs and have been rejected by other organizations. Please feel free to come and visit, volunteer and watch the changing of the leaves – You will go away knowing you have added something special – LOVE – to the critter’s lives!
Rochester Humane Society: Rochester, NY.The Humane Society is committed to the humane treatment of animals through education, prevention of cruelty and promotion of responsible pet ownership. Every year, the Humane Society of Rochester takes in over 12,000 unwanted, abandoned or abused animals. Through careful screening, these animals are placed in loving homes with responsible owners. Our staff and volunteers are proud of the fact that we have one of the highest adoption rates in the country.

Saratoga County Animal Shelter – Ballston Spa, NY.This page is updated weekly with both dogs, puppies, cats and kittens available for adoption at the saratoga county shelter in Ballston Spa, NY. Check out the movie clips of “babies” and others when thet are offered. They take some time to load for those with standard modem connections, but are worth the wait.
Schoharie Valley Animal Shelter – Howes Caves, NY. The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc. was founded by a group of residents of Schoharie County disturbed by the plight of the many starved, abused and stray animals in this area. ASSV is a not for profit organization and is made up of all volunteer members and board of directors, with the exception of the shelter manager and kennel workers. The goal of ASSV has been to try alleviate stray animal suffering and to build a shelter to house, feed and care for these animals until safe and loving homes are found for them.

Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association – Canastota, NY. WRHA still operates with the same mission established in 1981: To give temporary shelter to and provide care for homeless dogs and cats, while attempting to find them good, permanent homes.
Whiskers– Albany, NY. Whiskers Animal Benevolent League is a small, volunteer-run, no-kill animal shelter in Albany,New York. Whiskers came into existence in 1982. We believe all life has value and all animals have a right to their lives and to health and happiness. We euthanize only in cases of terminal illness, and most of the animals in our shelter are not caged. (We give new meaning to the words Cat House!)
